Welcome to the Khoshbouei laboratory website
Our research is to understand how the dopamine transporter (DAT) regulates biological responses, and how this regulation is modulated by structural differences in ligands acting at DAT and by DAT-interacting proteins such as alpha-synuclein and Sigma-1Receptor. As an example, by discovering the mechanisms by which the DAT ligand methamphetamine induces its unique addictive qualities, we will not only reveal novel therapeutic targets for intervention/prophylaxis of disorders associated with dysregulation of the dopaminergic system, but almost certainly ascertain new molecular mechanisms for transporter-effected signal transduction. Finally, I also intend that my research laboratory will provide an outstanding venue for the training of unergradute, doctoral and post-doctoral trainees. Please feel free to contact us for additional information.
